ויהורם בר אחאב מלך על ישראל בשמרון בשנת תמני עסרי ליהושפט מלך שבטא דבית יהודה ומלך תרתא עסרי שנין:
shnyn esry thrtha wmlk yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk lyhwshpT esry thmny bshnth bshmrwn yshral el mlk akhab br wyhwrm
Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

ועבד דביש קדם יי לחוד לא כאבוהי וכאמיה ואעדי ית קמת בעלא דעבד אבוהי:
abwhy debd bela qmth yth waedy wkamyh kabwhy la lkhwd yy qdm dbysh webd
He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, but not like his father and like his mother, for he put away the pillar of Baal that his father had made.

לחוד בחובי ירבעם בר נבט דחיב ית ישראל אתרעי לא סטא מנה:
mnh sTa la athrey yshral yth dkhyb nbT br yrbem bkhwby lkhwd
Nevertheless he held to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin. He didn’t depart from them.

ומישע מלכא דמואב הוה מרי גיתין ומתיב תוקרבא למלכא דישראל שנא בשנא מאה אלפין תורין דפטמא ומאה אלפין דכרין דרעיא:
dreya dkryn alpyn wmah dpTma thwryn alpyn mah bshna shna dyshral lmlka thwqrba wmthyb gythyn mry hwh dmwab mlka wmyshe
Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder; and he supplied the king of Israel with one hundred thousand lambs and the wool of one hundred thousand rams.

והוה כד מית אחאב ומריד מלכא דמואב במלכא דישראל:
dyshral bmlka dmwab mlka wmryd akhab myth kd whwh
But when Ahab was dead, the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

ונפק מלכא יהורם ביומא ההוא משמרון ומנא ית כל ישראל:
yshral kl yth wmna mshmrwn hhwa bywma yhwrm mlka wnpq
King Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time, and mustered all Israel.

ואזל ושלח לות יהושפט מלכא דבית יהודה למימר מלכא דמואב מריד בי התיזיל עמי לות מואב בקרבא ואמר אסק אנא כותך עמי כעמך סוסוי כסוסוך:
kswswk swswy kemk emy kwthk ana asq wamr bqrba mwab lwth emy hthyzyl by mryd dmwab mlka lmymr yhwdh dbyth mlka yhwshpT lwth wshlkh wazl
He went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me against Moab to battle?” He said, “I will go up. I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”

ואמר באידא אורחא ניסק ואמר אורח מדברא דאדום:
dadwm mdbra awrkh wamr nysq awrkha bayda wamr
Then he said, “Which way shall we go up?” Jehoram answered, “The way of the wilderness of Edom.”

ואזל מלכא דישראל ומלך שבטא דבית יהודה ומלכא דאדום ואסחרו מהלך שבעא יומין ולא הוה מיא למשריתא ולבעירא דעמהון:
demhwn wlbeyra lmshrytha mya hwh wla ywmyn shbea mhlk waskhrw dadwm wmlka yhwdh dbyth shbTa wmlk dyshral mlka wazl
So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom, and they marched for seven days along a circuitous route. There was no water for the army or for the animals that followed them.

ואמר מלכא דישראל וי ארי זמין יי לתלתא מלכיא האלין לממסר יתהון בידא דמואב:
dmwab byda ythhwn lmmsr halyn mlkya lthltha yy zmyn ary wy dyshral mlka wamr
The king of Israel said, “Alas! For Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”

ואמר יהושפט הלית כא נביא דיי ונשאל ית פתגמא דיי מניה ואתב חד מעבדי מלכא דישראל ואמר הכא אלישע בר שפט דשמש ית אליהו:
alyhw yth dshmsh shpT br alyshe hka wamr dyshral mlka mebdy khd wathb mnyh dyy pthgma yth wnshal dyy nbya ka hlyth yhwshpT wamr
But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there a prophet of Yahweh here, that we may inquire of Yahweh by him?” One of the king of Israel’s servants answered, “Elisha the son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah, is here.”

ואמר יהושפט אית עמיה פתגמא דיי ונחתו לותיה מלכא דישראל ויהושפט ומלכא דאדום:
dadwm wmlka wyhwshpT dyshral mlka lwthyh wnkhthw dyy pthgma emyh ayth yhwshpT wamr
Jehoshaphat said, “Yahweh’s word is with him.” So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

ואמר אלישע למלכא דישראל מה לי ולך אזיל לות נביי אבוך ולות נביי אמך ואמר ליה מלכא דישראל בבעו לא תדכר חובין רשעתא ההיא בעי עלנא רחמין ארי זמין יי לתלתא מלכיא האלין לממסר יתהון בידא מואבאי:
mwabay byda ythhwn lmmsr halyn mlkya lthltha yy zmyn ary rkhmyn elna bey hhya rshetha khwbyn thdkr la bbew dyshral mlka lyh wamr amk nbyy wlwth abwk nbyy lwth azyl wlk ly mh dyshral lmlka alyshe wamr
Elisha said to the king of Israel, “What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother.” The king of Israel said to him, “No, for Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”

ואמר אלישע קים הוא יי צבאות דמשמשנא קדמוהי ארי אלולא פון אפי יהושפט מלך שבטא דבית יהודה אנא נסיב אם אסתכל בך ואם אחזינך:
akhzynk wam bk asthkl am nsyb ana yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk yhwshpT apy pwn alwla ary qdmwhy dmshmshna tsbawth yy hwa qym alyshe wamr
Elisha said, “As Yahweh of Armies lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I respect the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.

וכען איתו לי גברא דידע לנגנא בכנורא והוה כד נגן דמנגן ושריא עלוהי רוח נבואה מן קדם יי:
yy qdm mn nbwah rwkh elwhy wshrya dmngn ngn kd whwh bknwra lngna dyde gbra ly aythw wken
But now bring me a musician.” When the musician played, Yahweh’s hand came on him.

ואמר כדנן אמר יי יתעביד נחלא הדין פצידין פצידין:
ptsydyn ptsydyn hdyn nkhla ythebyd yy amr kdnn wamr
He said, “Yahweh says, ‘Make this valley full of trenches.’

ארי כדנן אמר יי לא תחזון רוחא ולא תחזון מטרא ונחלא ההוא יתמלי מיא ותשתון אתון וגיתיכון ובעירכון:
wbeyrkwn wgythykwn athwn wthshthwn mya ythmly hhwa wnkhla mTra thkhzwn wla rwkha thkhzwn la yy amr kdnn ary
For Yahweh says, ‘You will not see wind, neither will you see rain, yet that valley will be filled with water, and you will drink, both you and your livestock and your other animals.

וקלילא דא קדם יי וימסר ית מואבאי בידכון:
bydkwn mwabay yth wymsr yy qdm da wqlyla
This is an easy thing in Yahweh’s sight. He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.
19
ותמחון כל כרך תקיף וכל קרוין כריכן וכל אילן דיאי תעקרין וכל מבועי מיא תסתמון וכל אחסנתא שפרתא תטומון באבניא:
babnya thTwmwn shprtha akhsntha wkl thsthmwn mya mbwey wkl theqryn dyay ayln wkl krykn qrwyn wkl thqyp krk kl wthmkhwn
You shall strike every fortified city and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all springs of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.’”

והוה בצפרא כמיסק מנחתא והא מיא אתן באורח אדום ואתמליאת ארעא ית מיא:
mya yth area wathmlyath adwm bawrkh athn mya wha mnkhtha kmysq btspra whwh
In the morning, about the time of offering the sacrifice, behold, water came by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.

וכל מואבאי שמעו ארי סליקו מלכיא לאגחא קרבא בהון ואתכנישו מכל אסירי סיפא ולעילא וקמו על תחומא:
thkhwma el wqmw wleyla sypa asyry mkl wathknyshw bhwn qrba lagkha mlkya slyqw ary shmew mwabay wkl
Now when all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, they gathered themselves together, all who were able to put on armor, young and old, and stood on the border.

ואקדימו בצפרא ושמשא נחת על מיא וחזו מואבאי מקבל ית מיא סומקין כדמא:
kdma swmqyn mya yth mqbl mwabay wkhzw mya el nkhth wshmsha btspra waqdymw
They rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone on the water, and the Moabites saw the water opposite them as red as blood.

ואמרו דם דין אתגראה אתגריאו מלכיא וקטלו גבר ית חבריה וכען פוקו לביזתא מואבאי:
mwabay lbyztha pwqw wken khbryh yth gbr wqTlw mlkya athgryaw athgrah dyn dm wamrw
They said, “This is blood. The kings are surely destroyed, and they have struck each other. Now therefore, Moab, to the plunder!”

ואתו למשריתא דישראל וקמו ישראל ומחו ית מואבאי ואפכו מן קדמיהון ומחו בהון וקטלו ית מואבאי:
mwabay yth wqTlw bhwn wmkhw qdmyhwn mn wapkw mwabay yth wmkhw yshral wqmw dyshral lmshrytha wathw
When they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and struck the Moabites, so that they fled before them; and they went forward into the land attacking the Moabites.

וקרויא פגרו וכל אחסנתא שפירא רמו גבר אבניה ומלאוהא וכל מבועי מיא סתמו וכל אילן דיאי עקרו עד דלא אשתארת אבנא בקרתא דלא פגרוהא ואסתחרו קלעיא ומחוהא:
wmkhwha qleya wasthkhrw pgrwha dla bqrtha abna ashtharth dla ed eqrw dyay ayln wkl sthmw mya mbwey wkl wmlawha abnyh gbr rmw shpyra akhsntha wkl pgrw wqrwya
They beat down the cities; and on every good piece of land each man cast his stone, and filled it. They also stopped all the springs of water and cut down all the good trees, until in Kir Hareseth all they left was its stones; however the men armed with slings went around it and attacked it.

וחזא מלכא דמואב ארי תקיפו מניה עבדי קרבא ודבר עמיה שבע מאה גברא שלפי סיפא לאפנאה לות מלכא דאדום ולא יכילו:
ykylw wla dadwm mlka lwth lapnah sypa shlpy gbra mah shbe emyh wdbr qrba ebdy mnyh thqypw ary dmwab mlka wkhza
When the king of Moab saw that the battle was too severe for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew a sword, to break through to the king of Edom; but they could not.

ונסיב ית בריה בוכרא דעתיד דימלוך תחותוהי ואסקיה עלתא על שורא והוה רגז רב על ישראל ואסתלקו מניה ותבו לארעא:
larea wthbw mnyh wasthlqw yshral el rb rgz whwh shwra el eltha wasqyh thkhwthwhy dymlwk dethyd bwkra bryh yth wnsyb
Then he took his oldest son who would have reigned in his place, and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. There was great wrath against Israel; and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
